Firstly, let me say, that I was surprised that this kind of victimisation can still happen in modern civilised society, but moreover, the fact that the intended victim appears to actually enjoy the constant sledging and even contributes himself , really begs the question……..is it time for a psyche analysis?
At first glance I thought that this forum is a shameless waste of valuable practice time and there are those among us who should really take that on board .
It seems that the scales of justice have not been appropriately tared , and that Marcus needs some help, being for some inexplicable reason outnumbered ten to one by people who feel that he is crap.
I CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT I HAVE NEVER , EVER , HEARD HIM SAY A BAD WORD ABOUT ANYONE HE DIDN’T KNOW OF………….
Its time to even things up, and even though I have only known the man for a mere 7 or 8 years, I feel duty bound to step up.
He is a wonderful communicator, just last year alone he sent me 200 emails .
Granted most of them were totally insignificant , and the rest were basically shameless plugs designed to entice me to travel over 500km just to see him play a gig in a skirt, but AT LEAST THE MAN PROMOTES HIS ART.
He has pioneered a unique style of vibrato, quite recognisable on his many recordings, sure it might be aided by the parkinsons disease, but hell, he doesn’t get paid by his methods but by his results!!!
People say that he takes a disturbing amount of bum photo’s…..we all have a hobby, and I reckon as a healthy red blooded obviously metro-sexual aussie man , its not something to be ashamed of. After all, when your own garden seems to be somewhat bereft, surely its alright to study and learn from those who do seem to have things abundantly in the places they should have.
Marcus is soooo knowledgeable, it doesn’t matter what the subject is….the arts, culture, kinky Japanese, he is ALWAYS ready to share his considerable insights on the unwary listener, especially after a small amount of red wine . I haven’t found a subject yet that Marcus hasn’t been able to debate some aspect of , even personal grooming, take for example the discussion the other month about excessive eyebrow hair and how it relates to musical genius. Its not marcus’ fault none of us could understand the link , especially having heard him play, more to blame might have been the fact that the red wine was from the “below ten dollars” bin at dan murphy’s and didn’t have a proper label, there could have been any number of chemicals in that stuff………
He dresses to kill too. Bad dressing seems to be a religion among professional musos . That other frizzy haired bloke in the fiddlers feast tries VERY BLOODY HARD, but even his greatest efforts to dress up come nowhere near close to the abstract impressionist theme of marcus’ everyday attire. When it comes to bad taste the man is the simply in a league of his own, he has so mastered it that he simply doesn’t need to try AT ALL.
Don’t worry, he’s had actual job offers based on his fashion style, for example : the leading role in hollywood sequel “the devil wears target” , with the only proviso that if he had to contribute to the soundtrack, he kept the devil the hell right away from Georgia.
And fans ?? he has amassed a huge following, especially in Japan, that place which he has been criticised for loving, more than his own country (the ACT). People follow him in huge throngs throwing all kinds of stuff at him, its amazing.
He once told he that he had developed his recording skills and technology to the point that he could get separate musical parts sent to him from musician friends all over the planet and then simply put it all together seamlessly on his laptop as if they were all there at the same time. You’ve only got to listen to fiddlers festival LIVE to see what I mean.
I think we should give the man a break, he does so much for the fiddling community. Look at the golden fiddle awards, sure he may somehow have won one for himself, but that’s just like him. He is completely selfless, and wouldn’t subject another person to an award he wouldn’t accept himself , its really just a form of quality control….
He rarely disappoints…. notwithstanding those unfortunate incidents with the ninety nine women , apart from his lovely wife.
Its like he says, everyone deserves to be loved , right?
I fear that this site is doing Marcus a grievous dis-service. Crap falls a very long way short of accurately describing how the man is, for he completely transcends crap, every time.
In closing, Marcus if you are still logging in to check on how badly you are being sledged by your fellow music lovers…..take heart , not all of them are against you.
Some of them want you to stay exactly the wonderful way you are , that way they will still get plenty of work.
MY MATE MARCUS IS WAY MORE THAN CRAP!!!
